EXTRA HELP (LIS) – BRIEF OVERVIEW
Extra Help, also known as the Low-Income Subsidy (LIS), is a federal program that helps Medicare beneficiaries with limited income and resources reduce their Medicare Part D prescription drug costs.
Depending on eligibility level, Extra Help may:
Reduce or eliminate the monthly premium
Lower or eliminate the deductible
Significantly reduce copayments
Eliminate the Part D late enrollment penalty while eligible
Applications are typically submitted through Social Security (SSA) or automatically granted to certain individuals who qualify through Medicaid or Medicare Savings Programs.
