Extra Help With Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Costs

EXTRA HELP (LIS) – BRIEF OVERVIEW

Extra Help, also known as the Low-Income Subsidy (LIS), is a federal program that helps Medicare beneficiaries with limited income and resources reduce their Medicare Part D prescription drug costs.

Depending on eligibility level, Extra Help may:

  • Reduce or eliminate the monthly premium

  • Lower or eliminate the deductible

  • Significantly reduce copayments

  • Eliminate the Part D late enrollment penalty while eligible

Applications are typically submitted through Social Security (SSA) or automatically granted to certain individuals who qualify through Medicaid or Medicare Savings Programs.

Extra Help plays a critical role in making prescription medications more affordable and sustainable for eligible beneficiaries.
